IBS, by many estimates, has affected at least 30% of the population at some time in their lives. The numbers are staggering. IBS is thought to be a virus that settles in your intestines and is brought forth again by stress. Others believe the virus begins with an illness, like the flu, and does not go away after the flu symptoms have resolved themselves. No matter how it begins, the one thing that remains common is that people are not aware of how to get IBS under control. By using hypnosis as treatment, a person can alleviate the symptoms within a matter of days. Hypnosis works by utilizing your subconscious mind to send the correct stimuli to your intestinal tract. You do not need the knowledge in you conscious mind, simply use a hypnosis CD to instill the necessary information that will enable your subconscious to make the changes. It is perhaps better understood by saying that hypnosis trains the part of your brain that works on everyday functions you don't think about, like swallowing, breathing, blinking, etc. to calm and work in the manner it was meant to with the specific parts of the body devoted to digestion in this case. The main theory behind the success of hypnosis for IBS is that the relaxation improves blood flow to the gut - something that stress tends to inhibit - and so improves digestion and the movement of food through the bowel. There is no cure per se; however there are many treatments such as medications (levsin), change in diet habits (no greasy high fat foods), acupuncture, healing touch, meditation, lifestyle changes, don't smoke, stuff like thatl.

Hi Virginia Here are some ideas to heal the issue. Causes IBS can be caused by a variety of factors, including poor diet and nutrition, food allergies, imbalanced levels of hydrochloric acid, impaired immunity, infections, lack of exercise, pharmaceutical drugs, and stress. Quick Action Plan for IBS 1. Avoid all sugars, refined flour products, and carbohydrates, milk and dairy products, processed foods that contain preservatives and artificial sweeteners, alcohol, hydrogenated and trans-fatty oils, as well as foods that are common allergens. 2. Emphasize organic, fresh vegetables and non-citrus fruits, organic grains, as well as organic, free-range meats and poultry and wild-caught fish. 3. Drink plenty of pure, filtered water throughout the day. Cleansing (especially colon) and Detoxification therapy such as short fasts, elimination diets, and colonics. 4. Enteric-coated peppermint oil and aloe vera juice. 5. Soothing baths two to five nights a week, as well as alternating hot and cold water packs placed over the abdomen. 6. Use Probiotics and soil-based organisms. 7. Therapeutic juices include wheatgrass juice; cabbage, papaya, and carrot juice. 8. Stress reduction techniques, such as biofeedback, hypnosis, and meditation. 9. If you are a smoker, stop and refrain from taking aspirin or other NSAIDs. 10. Examine the possibility of withheld emotions as the cause of your symptoms and get support through emotional and physical expression, especially movement therapies such as NIA, Qi gong, Yoga or Total Integration Therapy to name a few options. Best of health to you

You could seek a second opinion and find out if u actually have Celiac Disease. IBS is actually a diagnosis of "I Dont know whats wrong with you" from docs. (seriosly it means lack of diagnosis) Celiac DIsesae is VERY often misdiagnosed as IBS. Celiac is an autoimmune disease in which the patient cannot digest gluten, a protein in wheat, rye and barley. Therefore, if u actually have Celiac, teh gluten free diet is the only 'cure' you need. It is lifelong however. These sites may help www.csaceliacs.org www.celiac.com www.celiac.org

This is going to sound really dumb, but it is worth a shot. See if you can get yourself to sit down and just focus on your breath. When your mind wonders just become aware of it and bring yourself back to your breath. If you can do this for 30 minutes twice a day you will start to see more then just your IBS get better. You will start to make the choices that will make your whole life better. (this is just what I believe and know from personal experience of having 7 major intestinal surgeries) Some people call it falling into the gap, but I call it my reset button. Meditate instead of Medicate:~)

I was told I had IBS when I was 15... I'd get stomach symptoms before a big exam, eating food other than my mom's, speaking in front of people, on long trips but when I moved away to college and was forced to do all those things all the time... my symptoms became less frequent. I guess my body and mind "toughened up" and now I'd say I definitely don't have IBS.
