Answer : YOU can try probiotics capsules that are lactose free, suitable for people suffering from milk intolerance. Other products that may help ease the symptoms include double strength fish oil containing marine fish oil derived from sardines and anchovies. Smaller fish such as these contain oils lower in environmental toxins than large predatory fish such as tuna and cod. Milk thistle and dandelion are good for constipation, besides being liver tonics.

This may seem reassuring to people who suffer from this condition and to their friends and families but this does not mean everything, irritable bowel syndrome can be very uncomfortable and painful for those who have it. It can also be quite unpredictable as for many weeks the affects can be quite minimal but then people may have a short period of severe discomfort. This can be very stressful and worrying for people as it makes them wonder why it has suddenly become worse. Many negative thoughts can then go through our heads with our demons trying to make us believe that things are far worse than they actually are. In reality this period of severe pain is likely to pass within a few days but is unfortunately likely to return within a few weeks. As I said it can be an unpredictable and frustrating condition to have.

In addition to changing your diet, a detox program with a series of colonics can cause drastic changes in your symptoms. Colonics, or colon hydrotherapy, help cleanse the entire length of the colon, removing years of hardened fecal matter than can essentially get stuck on the walls of the colon and interfere with proper digestion and elimination. By cleaning the "pipe" of your digestive tract, IBS symptoms can be resolved quickly and effectively with colonics. Combining herbal detox supplements with colonics and eating raw foods will give you the best results for curing IBS.

Some physicians suggest adding fiber to your irritable bowel syndrome diet to reduce symptoms. Fiber such as apples, peaches, raw broccoli and carrots, cabbage, and peas as well as kidney and lima beans and whole-grain breads and cereals will round out your diet. Eat the fiber first when your stomach is empty to help reduce the symptoms. You may be thinking that there is no way you can follow the irritable bowel syndrome diet but once you learn what you can and cannot eat then you will be able to reduce your symptoms and learn your "triggers."Learning about things is what we are living here for now. So try to get to know as much about everything, including IBS - Irritable Bowel Syndrome whenever possible.

Have you been tested for Celiac Disease? Studies show that as many as 60% of people labeled with IBS (I say labeled because IBS is not a diagnosis, that is, it does not define the source/cause of the symptoms) actually have Celiac Disease. Celiac disease is an autoimmune disease that damages the lining of the small intestine. It is caused by an allergy to certain proteins in wheat, rye and barley called glutens/gliadins. Doctors in the U.S. are so 'unknowledgeable' that they only diagnose this disorder in 3% of the patients with the disease. It is a common disease, occurring in about 1 person in 100, but is only diagnosed at a rate of 1 in 3500 in the U.S. Another possibility is food allergies/intolerances which are common causes of IBS-labeled symptoms. The gold-standard for diagnosing food allergies is an elimination diet. You may need to find a nutritional food allergy specialist to help you evaluate this possibility. Best wishes and good luck.

I used to have trouble with IBS. My internist had me write down Everything I ate or drank for 5 weeks and also keep track of when I got sick. By writing it all down, I was able to pinpoint which foods make me sick. It is several foods, and I have a 12 hour delay when I get sick from them.
  • plutopian replied on Sun, 07 May, 2006
You say you changed your diet, but there may still be something in your diet upsetting you that you arent aware is bad. Are you drinking a lot of water, and did you drink a lot of water when you did the candida cleanse (to flush out the toxins)? Take note of which foods give you gas everytime you eat. Maybe you have an allergy to something you are eating that you think is healthy, or as previously suggested, perhaps you have Celiac disease. Kinesiologists can often determine allergies.
